You’ll find a helpful Visitor Center in the heart of downtown
in the historic train depot, which is listed on the National Register
of Historic Places in commemoration of the Transcontinental Railroad,
which reached Truckee on April 3, 1868.
HEAD OVER TO BEAUTIFUL Donner Lake
and the Donner Memorial State Park. The Emigrant Trail Museum shows
a 20-minute movie about the ill-fated Donner Party and has displays
and information about one of the earliest pioneer wagon trains,
the construction of the transcontinental railroad, lumber and ice
harvesting industries. Near the museum is the Pioneer Monument,
built to commemorate those who emigrated to California from the
east in the mid-1800’s, and the Donner Party’s Murphy
family cabin site.
Come and enjoy Truckee’s year-round special events including
Windows on History in May and the Hometown 4th of July Parade. Fall
brings events that celebrate our heritage such as Railroad Days
and Donner Party Hike. For more information call the Truckee Donner
Chamber of Commerce at (530) 587-2757 or go to www.truckee.com.
